Carlos Alvarez is hoping to follow the footstep of his Team Lakay brother Carlo Bumina – ang when he steps in the ring anew on March 21 featuring 12 Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA contests inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Alvarez, winning four out of five bouts in One Championship’s Friday Fights 101, is looking forward to finally sign a P100,000 contract in the main roster of the largest MMA promotions in Asia.
The Team Lakay striker will take on unbeaten Japanese fighter Seiya Matsuda in the featherweight bracket.
“Let’s go for the win,” said Alvarez.
“He is motivated and 101% ready,” added coach Mark Sangiao.
Alvarez announced his entry in ONE Friday Fights with a resounding second round technical knock – out of Reza Abasi in April 2023 while submitting Sadegh Ghasemi in the second round and Title Chai in the first round in July and October 2023 respectively.
His dreams of getting the coveted contract in ONE got dashed however, after he suffered a second round TKO against Mongolia’s Nachyn Sat in December 2023.
Almost a year after his loss to Sat, Alvarez worked on his skills and scored a second round TKO against Mirza Aliev on November 2024 and revive his hopes of getting signed up in the big league.
In the main event, #4-ranked flyweight Muay Thai contender Nakrob Fairtex faces his hard-hitting Thai compatriot Puengluang Baanramba.
Also in the fight card is Thailand’s Rocky Wor Wantawee takes on Myanmar’s Thway Lin Htet in an intriguing strawweight Muay Thai contest between two knockout artists.
In another featured bout of the evening, Israeli-American Avahat Gordon makes his debut against Eh Mwi of Myanmar in a flyweight Muay Thai showdown. Opening the fight night is Monjit Yein from India faces Justin Jones Matoto of the Philippines in strawweight action.
