Committed to further professionalize mixed martial arts in the country, Coach Mark Sangiao and other members of Team Lakay recently paid a courtesy call to Games and Amusement Board chairman Atty. Richard Clarin.
The meeting marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the MMA community and regulatory authorities, aiming to create a safer and more conducive environment for fighters to thrive.
“GAB and Team Lakay will continue to partner in promoting MMA in the country thru grassroots events. The Chairman also expressed his gratitude as we are among the pioneers when it comes to MMA in the country,” Sangiao said.
More than promoting safety, the meeting also discussed broader landscape of MMA promotion in the Philippines. Recognizing the sport’s growing popularity and potential for further expansion, Sangiao and Clarin explored avenues to enhance promotional efforts while sharing their vision aimed at increasing public awareness, attracting more enthusiasts, and ultimately, propelling Filipino MMA onto the global stage.
Concrete plans are also being laid out to implement these initiatives effectively as both parties expressed their unwavering commitment to work hand in hand, leveraging their respective expertise and resources to achieve common goals.
Through collaboration and synergy, they aim to foster an environment where MMA thrives not only as a sport but also as a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and pursue their dreams.
Under Sangiao’s leadership, Team Lakay has risen to prominence in the MMA scene, producing world-class fighters who have captured titles and accolades on both national and international stages. However, beyond their achievements in the cage, the team has consistently advocated for the betterment of MMA as a whole, emphasizing the importance of athlete welfare and the development of the sport, thru grassroots in the Philippines.
Moreover, the discussions delved into the imperative of ramping up promotions for MMA, with both parties recognizing the need to expand the sport’s reach and cultivate a larger fan base. By leveraging their collective resources and expertise, Team Lakay and the GAB aim to orchestrate compelling events that not only showcase the talent of Filipino fighters but also captivate audiences nationwide. In fact, another MMA and kickboxing event will happen this March 30 at Benguet State University, Close Gym featuring fighters from different parts of the country dubbed as “Congressman Eric Go Yap Martial Arts Tournament.”
