Team Lakay young guns strike medals in Batang Pinoy, Provincial Meet

This early, Team Lakay’s young guns are showing what they are capable of after bringing home medals in the recently concluded Batang Pinoy National Championship and the Benguet Provincial Athletic Meet.

With Benguet province moving to 15th over-all during the Batang Pinoy National Championships held in Palawan after finishing with 16 gold medals including 12 silver and 33 bronzes, 13 young Team Lakay dragons chipped – in six gold medals including one silver and bronze for the province while another who competed for Baguio City also went home with a gold.

The grapplers had a field day, grabbing four golds courtesy of Kryg Ebes, Liam Liwan, Robert Daniel and Clark Bangwa while Collin Raye Bas-ilan took home a silver in kick boxing.

Scoring a gold each in Muay Thai are Ralph Cervantes, and Anilyn Linglingan while Marceline Tabdi added a bronze.

Elaine Saclag, who competed for Baguio also went home with a gold medal.

During the 2024 Benguet Provincial Athletic Meet, Team lakay’s young Muay Thai team also went home with five gold medals and two bronze coming from Jessa Mae Ventura, Jhohana Linglingan, Anilyn Linglingan, Vin Diesel Almario, and Jonathan Ciriaco.

The bronze medalists are Faye Marcelina Tabdi (Wai Kru), and Collin Raye Bas-ilan.

According to coach Mark Sangiao, most of the medalists during the Batang Pinoy and during the provincial meet were products of Team Lakay’s Future Champion Kids Training’ program.

The ‘Future Champion Kids Training’ program are just some of the few initiatives by the team together with Cong. Eric Go Yap, who serves as manager for Team Lakay.

Team Lakay, earlier this year also signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Education – Benguet in a bid to enhance the skills and capabilities of athletes by providing comprehensive training programs.

The MOA also aims to foster a collaborative environment for the continuous improvement of student-athletes in the areas of Wushu Sanshou, MMA, and other relevant martial arts disciplines.

Both parties, under the memorandum, will also work together to develop and implement a comprehensive athlete development program, including but not limited to technical skill training, strength and conditioning, and mental preparation.
