‘Matured’ Jhanlo returns to ONE next month

‘Matured’ Jhanlo returns to ONE next month

For some mix martial artists, taking a two year hiatus is quite too long. But for Jhanlo Sangiao, the two year off was a way to recalibrate his career and learn from his recent loss.

After taking One Championship by storm in his first three bouts, Sangiao was tested in his fourth bout and was submitted in the second round by Mongolian Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu earning his first career loss.

“Nung una parang hindi ko natangap kasi malaki ang expectations ng mga tao na dapat undefeated,” said Sangiao.

The 22 – year – old Sangiao debuted in ONE in Dec 2021m scoring a first round submission against Paul Lumihi.

In his next bouts, it was Anacleto Lauron who got the short end of the stick as Sangiao submitted his compatriot in the first round and in 2023, Sangiao pulled off another submission win in just 58 seconds of the opening round against a well – rounded Matias Farinelli.

The two victories also earned him back – to – back $50,000 bonuses form ONE. But that streak ended after Baatarkhuu outsmarted Sangiao in the second round.

“Yung pagkatalo na yun ang nag bigay ng lesson sa akin para mag grow, na marami pa akong dapat matutunan. It humbled me to learn more. Dati kasi sa aking training ang tingin ko sa sarili ko, ako na yung pinaka – magaling,” Said Sangiao.

On July 11, Sangiao will once again enter ONE’s cage as he takes on another Mongolian Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg.

Sangiao is widely considered one of the most talented young MMA stars from the Philippines, but after suffering his first career defeat, he’s more motivated than ever to prove he belongs with the best of the best.

Shinechagtga, on the other hand, is one of MMA’s most electrifying and entertaining strikers. With his aggressive style, shocking power, and granite chin, he’s become a must-watch attraction each and every time he competes.

Like Sangiao, the 28-year-old will be determined to return to the win column after falling to former ONE World Title challenger Kwon Won Il in his last appearance.

“Tuloy – tuloy lang ang naging training. Siguro mas naging mas mature ako. Hindi bara-bara, kailangan pag aralan yung mga susunod na laban,” Sangiao closed.
