Sangiao submits Zoltsetseg in dying seconds

Jhanlo Sangaio marked his return in One Championship with a flare, scoring a near buzzer beater of a rear naked choke against Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg in ONE Fight Night 33: Rodrigues vs. Persson on Prime Video live from Bangkok’s legendary Lumpinee Stadium Saturday morning.

Sangaio, now a father with his newborn son just a few days ago, is back on the winning circle after coming from a two year lay – off, and a loss against to another Mongolian, Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu.

“It’s nice to win again. That is the goal, to always finish the fight. As a new father, this gave me the inspiration and motivation to perform and win,” said the Team Lakay scion, who is now 7-1 with a 100% finishing rate.

The Filipino phenom after his first setback was determined to bounce back into the winner’s circle and get revenge against his Mongolian rival’s compatriot.

With the victory, Jhanlo’s father Mark, believed the young fighter could have finished the bout earlier, particularly in the first round where he almost pulled off an arm bar or even a triangle choke.

“Medyo natulog yung career niya for two years, lately na lang bumalik sa training. Mas maganda siguro kung non – stop at dirediretso ang training niya,” added the Team Lakay top honcho.

Despite ring rust, the younger Sangiao showed sign of his ring brilliance quickly shooting for a double – leg takedown as held onto Zoltsetseg’s left arm and attempted to secure an armbar, but the Mongolian scraped out of trouble.

Sangiao then continue to pressure Zoltsetseg, landing another takedown and eventually made his way to full mount, where he rained down thunderous strikes with the Mongolian reversing the situation and landed some shots of his own as time expired in the second round.

Both fighters went for broke in the final canto, engaging in a striking battle but Sangiao was able to secure a takedown and worked his way with a combination of strikes until locking in that rare naked choke to force the stoppage at the 4:42 mark of the final frame.

“He was able to control the ground. Nagwork yung gameplan na tapusin yung laban sa ground,” added coach Mark.

With a highlight reel victory in his return, Sangiao assured fight fans he is back for good.

“Tuloy – tuloy ang training and will wait for the next fight!” Sangiao added.
