Bumina-ang’s win puts ONE bantamweight on notice

In just 53 seconds, Team Lakay’s Carlo Von Bumina-ang showed the world what he is capable of doing in One Championship.

Bumina-ang has definitely moved on from his third round loss against Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu in his ONE main roster debut in August last year, edging Korean Min Jong Song in the undercard of ONE Fight Night 28: Prajanchai vs. Barboza at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, February 7.

“It was an impressive win,” remarked coach Mark Sangiao.

While Bumina-ang had to work double time against Baatarkhuu in his last bout, against Song, the Team Lakay bantamweight immediately pressed on the action with his pinpoint striking and stiff short punches that forced Song to attempt a takedown.

After stuffing the South Korean’s attempt, a knee to the head all but signaled an end to the action.

A cavalcade of punches then forced a first-round TKO stoppage, giving Bumina-ang a standout victory.

“To build his confidence back, we had constant pep talk and of course the regular physical training that we have programmed to toughen his mental and emotional endurance and conditioning,” added Sangiao.

Sangiao added the Korean was also a tough fighter despite the early stoppage who has been fighting in MMA in 2010 and has never lost below the one minute mark of the first round.

Song also fought Bumina-ang’s senior in Team Lakay, former flyweight world champion Geje Eustaquio in October 2020 and also lost via unanimous decision.

“Yung kalaban ni Carlo is also a high caliber fighter and experienced and in most of his fight, he has shown his mental and physical toughness,” added Sangiao.

The win improved Bumina-ang’s record to 7-1, elevating his finishing rate to 86 percent while grabbing the bantamweight MMA division’s attention.

The Team Lakay fighter ascended to the promotion’s main card after securing a $100,000 contract, after impressing ONE executives with his impressive victories in ONE Friday Fights, solidifying his stature as a promising MMA prospect from Benguet.

“The training has indeed paid off. To my coaches—led by Coach Mark Siangao—my teammates and our team manager Congressman Eric Go Yap who have been with me throughout this journey, I couldn’t have done this without you,” wrote Bumina-ang in his recent Facebook post after his win.
