Checkmat PH pipped Team Lakay Central Gym by just four silver medals to claim the over-all title in the 41st Lakay Grapplers Cup in partnership with YMCA – Baguio and supported by Benguet Cong. Eric Go Yap.
Team Lakay and Chekmat PH was tied with nine golds but it was the silver that mattered the most that saw the latter winning nine silver and seven bronze while the event host squad taking the same amount of gold, five silvers and six bronze medals.
Paolo Rafael Donglasan led the charge for Chekmat winning the gold in the juniors male 50 kg below while also taking home the best submission via triangle kimura.
Other gold medalists for Chekmat are Criselyn Lusadan (seniors female 51-57 kg) Michael Tauli Jr. (kids male 10-12 yo 32-38 kg), Nhel Justin Anioay (seniors male adv 51-57 kg), Seth Tauli, (seniors male adv. 58-64), Ychivan Moises (seniors male nov. 58-64), Daryl Marcelino (seniors male adv. 65-71 kg), Jeremy Bahingawan (seniors male nov. 72-79 kg), and Arvin Jose (seniors adv. 80 kg and above).
Holding the fort for Team Lakay meanwhile is Ralph Cervantes who won gold medals in juniors male 65-71 kg and absolute division, Anilyn Linglingan (juniors female 50 kg below), Jessa Mae Ventura (kids female 13-15 yo 39-45 kg), Jhohana Linglingan TLCG, (kids female 13-15 yo 53-59 kg), Nathaniel Alvarez (kids male 13-15 yo 60-66 kg), Kurt Gio Sumilao (seniors male nov. 65-71 kg), Dalemarrie Mayos (seniors female 50 kg below) and Colin John Banusan (seniors male 50 kg below).
Kaitagi Judo Club meanwhile stormed the field with seven gold medals to place third in the over – all standings including five silvers and one bronze led by Carla Martillana who topped the seniors female 58-64 kg weight class together with Joshua Kelly Buenaviaje (kids male 9 yrs old below 32-38 kg) Mariya Aleana Garcia (kids female 9 yrs old below 25-31 kg), Ivan Nikolai Penchon (kids male 9 yrs old below 39-45 kg), Chloe Elize Maskay (kids female 10-12 yrs old 39-45 kg), Adam Maliaman (kids male 10-12 yrs old 60-66 kg) and Leanne Siddayao (kids female 13-15 yo 46-52 kg).
Gara MMA also snatched four golds courtesy of Julian Santos (kids male 13-15 yo 46-52 kg), Jhamwell Garin (juniors male 51-57 kg) Denzel Alipio (juniors male 58-64 kg), and Benjie Almanon Jr (seniors male nov. 80 kg and above) while adding one silver and one bronze in the tournament.
YMCA finished the tournament with three gold medals from Lucas Avellanosa (kids male 10-12 yo 39-45 kg), Aaron Ana-as (seniors male nov 51-57 kg) and Andro Khein Cudao (seniors male adv. 72-79 kg).
Quads Furukawa MMA and Baguio BJJ meanwhile had one gold each courtesy of Cedrick Alabat (kids male 13-15 yo 39-45 kg) and Kobie Jaden Campos (kids male 13-15 yo 53-59 kg).
Gridlock MMA meanwhile took home three silvers and three bronze each with Team Lakay San Fernando bagging two silvers while Wild Dogs MMA and Tribu Banwar had one silver apiece.
Other participating teams are Red Lion, Elyu Menace Gym, Buguias Makneg, Clube de Jiu-jitsu Filipinas, and Sanda Sniper.
