Japan awaits Sevilleno, eyes semis win against Mongolian

Adonis Sevilleno is hoping to pick – up where he left off as he seeks another victory when he steps inside the cage on July 7 in Japan.

After racking – up two wins in Team Lakay Championship last December and March and improve his record to 4 – 4, Team Lakay’s Sevilleno hopes to extend his winning streak as he takes on Mongolia’s Dagiisuren Chagnaadoorj in the undercard of Gladiator Professional Mixed Martial Arts League in Osaka, Japan.

Gladiator 27 in Osaka will be headlined by Takaya Takemoto and Daichi Takenaka for the promotion’s bantamweight title.

“Sa ngayon tinututukan ng mga coaches ko yung striking tsaka yung grappling natin. Sa training pinag-aralan naman natin para ma – counter yung striking ng kalaban. Pag hindi makuha sa striking, dalhin natin sa ground,” said the Cebu City born fighter who now calls La Trinidad his second home.

Against Chagnaadoorj, Sevilleno said he needs to outsmart his Mongolian counterpart, with a 6-1 record that includes a submission and a stoppage, right from the start of the first – round to secure the win.

The contest will be a Gladiator Featherweight Semi-Final match with the winner moving on to the championship match.

Sevilleno was signed by Team Lakay after earning a $100,000 contract with ONE Championship when he won the reality TV series ONE Warrior Series in 2022.

He outlasted 15 other aspirants en route to winning the show. In his first two bout with ONE, Sevilleno was unfortunate to get the victories but bounced back when he submitted Reden Manguiat via arm triangle choke in Team Lakay Championship 18 – Benguet Explosion in December 2023.

The 31-year-old Bantayan City native then followed it up with another convincing victory by knocking – out David Morata in Team Lakay Championship 19 – Congressman Eric Go Yap Martial Arts Tournament held March 30.

Coach Mark Sangiao meanwhile is all praises to Sevilleno whose is slowly becoming a complete fighter since signing up the Visayan two years ago and hopes his training would equate to a win in his upcoming Japan stint.

“Malaki ang naging improvement ni Adonis since he became a Team Lakay member. Sa Striking, grappling and kahit sa over-all skills as a fighter, malayo na yung kanyang improvement,” added Sangiao.
