Team Lakay eyes hiring of additional specialized coaches

Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao unveiled an ambitious plan to propel his fighters to greater heights.

With a focus on Muay Thai, boxing, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Sangiao aims to bolster the skills and capabilities of his star athletes, including Stephen Loman, Carlos Alvarez, Carlo Von Buminaang, Jhanlo Sangiao, and Jean Claude Saclag by hiring additional coaches. Team Lakay has earned a reputation as one of the Philippines’ premier MMA training camps, producing several champions and elite fighters over the years.

However, Sangiao believes that in the ever-evolving world of combat sports, adaptation and expansion are essential to maintain the team’s competitive edge.

Sangiao’s decision to add specialist coaches in Muay Thai and boxing is a strategic move to enhance his fighters’ striking abilities.

“We have always prided ourselves on our wushu background,” Sangiao explained, “but to excel in modern MMA, we must be well-rounded. We want to develop our fighters into complete athletes.” In addition to this, Sangiao’s decision to bring in an MMA specialist coach will further hone the fighters’ grappling and ground skills, helping them become more versatile and unpredictable in the cage. The additions of Muay Thai, boxing, and MMA coaches not only reflect Coach Sangiao’s commitment to improving his fighters but also underline his forward-thinking approach in an ever-competitive landscape.

Sangiao said since MMA is ever-evolving, Team Lakay needs to adapt and stay ahead and bringing in the best coaches in each discipline is one way of elevating their game

Stephen Loman, Carlos Alvarez, Carlo Von Bumina-ang, Jhanlo Sangiao and Jean Claude Saclag, together with coach Mark are currently in Thailand for a training and will be holding their camp until the third week of the month.

Sangiao was awed with the facilities and equipment in their camp and the presence of highly skilled trainers.

The multi – medaled coach added the close to a month training camp in Thailand will help his fighters become more versatile, adaptable, and competitive and tapping into the wealth of knowledge offered by specialized coaches, he is confident that his fighters will have the tools needed to reach the highest echelons of the sport.

Sangiao meanwhile thanked Benguet Cong. Eric Go Yap, who also serves as the team manager, for his unwavering and unselfish support he has been extending to Team Lakay.
