The next world champion could be stepping into the spot light as the country’s top mixed martial arts gym presents Lakay Martial Arts Grand Prix on May 4 at the BSU open gymnasium.
Presented by Team Lakay, the one day event backed by Benguet Congressman Eric Go Yap, KM Ngayon Na, Fairtex and Lakay Central Massage & Spa is expected to lure hundreds of up and coming martial arts fighters from all over the region.
The action-packed Sunday event will feature young and aspiring athletes competing across five combat sports disciplines such as grappling, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
With Team Lakay’s legendary reputation in the world of combat sports, the grand prix promises not just intense battles but also a showcase of future stars in the making.
“We want to give our athletes exposure and showcase their skills in the different martial arts discipline like grappling, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and MMA,” said Team Lakay coach and founder Mark Sangiao.
He added the grand prix is designed to provide grassroots athletes an opportunity to test their skills and gain valuable experience, highlighting Team Lakay’s continued commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.
From lightning-fast grappling exchanges to explosive striking duels, the day is expected to be filled with adrenaline-pumping moments that will captivate fans and inspire the next wave of martial artists.
The event is also a platform where athletes can be nurtured as the next generation of champions and promote grassroots development in combative sports.
Sangiao added the grand prix is also about learning, growing, and discovering new talent in support of youth martial arts programs – a reflection of Team Lakay’s long-standing mission of instilling discipline, respect, and resilience through martial arts.
